Grant Description
The Tarbell Fellowship is a one-year, full-time program designed to develop journalists capable of reporting rigorously on artificial intelligence and its effects on society. Running from June 2027 to May 2028, the fellowship combines intensive AI journalism training, an in-person summit and a nine-month placement as an AI reporter at a partner newsroom, with the possibility of an additional one-year placement extension for successful fellows. It targets promising journalists, AI technical or policy specialists transitioning into journalism, and highly experienced journalists pursuing deeper AI coverage. Fellowship salaries range up to US$135,000 (approximately A$194,833) for Senior Fellows, with summit travel and accommodation additionally covered.
