Grant Description
The NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships 2025 program, delivered by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), is a nationally competitive grant initiative designed to support outstanding graduates in undertaking research-based higher degrees such as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Research Masters. With a total allocation of $10 million, the program aims to build Australia’s future research capacity by providing financial support to early-career researchers engaged in health and medical research of international calibre. The scholarships are offered across four research streams: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research, Clinical Medicine and Science Research, Dora Lush Basic Science Research, and Public Health and Health Services Research. Funding is provided for up to three years full-time (or part-time equivalent) for PhD studies and up to two years for Masters. The initiative aligns with national health priorities and supports structural priorities such as Indigenous health, gender equity, and capability development in emerging health research disciplines. The scheme includes special recognition through the Gustav Nossal Postgraduate Scholarship for the top-ranked applicant in the Clinical Medicine and Science stream, and additional support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers to build international networks.
